A Video Showing How Women Look On Social Media Vs. Real Life Has Sparked Debate

There is a particular strain of misogyny that demands women look incredible and sexy and have perfect skin without using makeup. If women wear makeup to look good, they’re liars. Unfortunately, the people who most commonly believe this generally have no idea what the vast majority of women look like without any makeup on: tired.

Even very naturally beautiful women probably don’t look how these guys expect without a little mascara and cover-up. We’re all just too conditioned by what we see in media, which always involves a makeup artist even if it’s a “no makeup” makeup look.

But try convincing them that. Someone named @AngelGail_4 tweeted out a Tik Tok video series of women in their every day looks shown next to images from their Instagram where they’re all done up. It was captioned on Twitter with, “Il a montrer toutes les arnaques de sa classe,” which very roughly means “showing off the scams.”


Is wearing makeup sometimes and not other times really a “scam” though? The second part of the Scam series is even worse. The words “exposing catfishes at school” appear in the video and focus on women’s actual butts! Someone having a different butt than you expect isn’t a catfish, folks.

A woman posting under the name @jackyisntcool responded to the original tweet by writing, “if you think I look like my social media pictures 24/7 you’re an idiot.”


Seriously. What are you going to do if your girlfriend doesn’t look perfect when she wakes up in the morning? After a run? When she’s sick? is she a liar and a catfish then? Do you expect her to post selfies when she’s throwing up from a hangover or running in her sweats to class? It’s okay to look cute sometimes and not other times, that doesn’t make you a criminal!

But here’s the big twist! The video was made by another woman, which kind of explains why all the other girls were smiling at her camera. 


She was the true catfish all along.
