It’s interesting that the same behaviors poor people are looked down on are celebrated when rich people do them.
It’s nearly every single thing you can think of, at least that’s what I realized when I was reading through the responses to this question @AnaSamways asked on Twitter: “What’s considered trashy if you’re poor, but classy if you’re rich?”
Drugs are glorified when rich people do them, but when poor people do them they are labeled “crackheads.” If poor people wear sportswear in public, they are looked down on but when rich people do it it’s a “trend.”
A lot of people noted that government assistance is trashy if poor people are getting it (welfare) but classy if rich people are getting it (“bailouts.”)
Here are 40 things that are considered “trashy” if you’re poor, but “classy” if you’re rich:
1. Getting free stuff.
2. Getty money from the goverment.
3. Crazy vs. Eccentric.
4. Habla Espanol?
5. Living off someone else’s hard work.

By the second point, I mean when poor people are bilingual, it’s often assumed they’re immigrants and/or don’t speak English well, even if the reality is they’re citizens & fully fluent in both.
But if a rich person learns a 2nd language, they’re assumed to be educated & worldly.— Elliott | 🖤 BLM | 🌿 (@BecomingElliott) July 22, 2020

Swimming pool in the back yard.
Above ground – trashy
In ground – classy
The more impractical the pool is the classier it’s considered – super expensive tile, weird shape, size. Smaller usually equals classier. Add a slide and it’s trashy again.
