There’s A White Claw Shortage, So You Better Stock Up While You Can

Summer has come and gone, and apparently so have its most popular trends. This past summer, it was difficult to go to a pool party or a barbecue or just scroll through your Instagram without seeing a can of White Claw. The super-popular spiked seltzer was everywhere, but it turns out fans might be seeing a whole lot less of it now. That’s right, we’ve got a White Claw shortage on our hands.

CNN Business first reported that the boozy beverage is struggling to keep up with the high demand for it. White Claw’s senior vice president of marketing Sanjiv Gajiwala said:

We are working around the clock to increase supply given the rapid growth in consumer demand. White Claw has accelerated faster than anyone could have predicted.

White Claw is composed of “a blend of seltzer water, our gluten-free alcohol base, and a hint of fruit flavor,” according to the drink’s official site. It skyrocketed in popularity this summer thanks, in part, to the many, many memes made in its honor.

Stores will be running low on White Claw, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t be able to get their hands on it at all. According to CNN, the company has been reallocating stocks of White Claw so that it’s more evenly distributed. All that means for customers is that one store might be sold out, but your favorite 12-pack will be in stock at the next store down the street. Phil Rosse, the president of Mark Anthony Brands which owns White Claw, told the Chicago Tribune:

“While not completely eliminating intermittent stock outs, we believe this strategy has helped us be in the best position possible on shelf. But with the tremendous response we have had from consumers, understandably, our supply chain has tightened.”

But, don’t worry. White Claw reps say that the drink of Summer 2019 should be fully stocked on shelves everywhere by 2020, just in time for next summer.
